The Ocean State Waves aren’t just another baseball team, they’re a dynamic part of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), a top-tier league that draws standout college players from across the country. These student-athletes come to South County each summer to hone their skills and compete at a high level, often catching the eyes of professional scouts along the way. In fact, in just five years, 29 former Waves players have been drafted or signed to pro contracts.

But the Waves aren’t just building baseball careers, they’re building community.

Bringing Baseball and Community Together

With their home field at Old Mountain Field in Wakefield, the Waves provide more than just great baseball, they deliver affordable, family-friendly fun that brings the whole community together. Last season alone, the team drew more than 15,000 fans to the ballpark. From kids in t-shirts chasing foul balls to veterans attending games for free in uniform, the Waves create an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.

The team also actively engages with local schools and organizations. Players read to kids in classrooms, join in on field days, and participate in community programs like local Red Cross blood drives. For nine weeks each summer, host families open their homes to players from all over the country, forming lasting bonds and giving these athletes a true taste of South County hospitality.
